17th Anniversary of 9-11...
On the 17th Anniversary of 9-11, we continue prayers for a path to peace. (Picture above - TishTrek and husband Harry @ the podium inside the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York City). It was the privilege of a lifetime for us to be with leaders from around the world on a night when honoring excellence in writing and reporting was the common language uniting all of us. As one of the proud sponsors of the Annual U.N. Correspondents' Dinner, we enjoyed honoring excellence in writing and communications by helping to fund scholarships for international university students who had the courage & talent to tackle some of the difficult issues of our time. Through their magnificent words, they successfully created content that helped readers see through the lens of their research & life experiences. These students inspired all of us. I have confidence the next generation will pick up where we leave off.

Become a Fan of Someone or Something!

Welcome to TishTrek - THE JOB BLOG!

If the job search isn't going as well as you'd like, fight back by becoming a fan of someone or something! Spend some time honorong the work of others who teach us by their great example! I promise your state of mind and mood will improve!

I make it my business to be a fan of many. How about you?

THOUGH THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS, YOU WILL COME ALIVE WITH PRIDE! Pt. Pleasant Borough High School student Andrew Ferrie who sang "Tonight" @ our Nashville Heritage Festival Fundraiser @ Jenkinson's on the Pt. Pleasant Beach Boardwalk & who brought the house down one week later singing Mozart's Dalla sua pace from "Don Giovanni" will sing at the METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE in NYC on Saturday evening - June 5th - along with fellow student & singing sensation Katie Blomquist who left an audience of 700 speeechless after she belted out out Je veux vivre from Romeo & Juliette (Charles Gounod)!! I'm a #1 FAN! I'll be sitting in that Opera House next Saturday to cheer them on and to fill my mind and soul with inspiring moments! What are you doing to lift your own spirits next Saturday?!

OR TRY THIS...

FOCUS ON THE HEROIC PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE: My Uncle John "Tis Himself" Conaghan (US Navy Veteran from WWII) will be playing (the fiddle he hand-carved!!) @ Community Park with his son, honorable Vietnam Vet Michael, in Pt. Pleasant, NJ on Sunday to honor those who gave all so others could live. Uncle John is the man who inpired me & an entire generation how to live with the music of a fiddler in our hearts! (Research the U.S.S. Tillman DD# 641 and you will understand my uncle's remarkable journey around the world!).

Since this blog is dedicated to helping talented people and managing job changes, my Uncle John was a former Sand-Hog who helped build several of the traffic tunnels leading to NYC; he was in the housing & construction business for over 40 years. When he retired, he transferred his great skills & many gifts to his "First Love" - music and instrument building!

Over the past 22 years he has hand-carved over 75 fiddles and other instruments; and since he was five years old, he has taught himself how to play every instrument that ever interested him! He has been recognized from one end of New Jersey to the other as a "Man of Excellence!" He and his sons - Michael & Patrick - formed an Irish Band in the early years and they've been delighting audiences and generations of our family at festivals ever since... St. Patrick's Day holds a deep & dear meaning for me because thanks to their wonderful artistic endeavors - the ceremony and tradition that is our family lives on in all of us!

My Uncle John Conaghan is my mom's eldest first cousin who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean at the age of 2. He arrived in New York on a boat from Donegal, Ireland with his mom - the extraodinary Grace Conaghan - and baby sister, Cecilia. You see, thanks to my parents and to so many wonderful relatives whose lessons were executed "by example" - I learned the meaning of courage, hard work and respect because people have lived these tenets in every corner of my life since the day I was born. They also taught me that a positive attitude is "the key" if you expect to scale and/or beat challenges ranging from the worst-of-times to life-threatening illnesses. I know this because I survived both situations with the help of God and thanks to all of them.

Children learn what they live. Who do you admire most for teaching you the meaning of courage, hard work and respect for others? Where did you love of life and all it has to offer come from?

Become a fan of someone or something and I promise it will have the positive influence on your day that you are searching for. Good luck!!!

Best regards,
Tish
